- The Relationship Between
The C.E.O. And The Consultant.
The first step is a meeting between the company's Chief Executive
Officer and the Consultant, the President of The Counseling Advantage,
Mr. Lynn T. Austrheim. At this meeting, the consultant will inquire
about the company's goals, and determine if there are specific areas of
concern. After understanding the company's needs, the consultant will
propose a plan that will best serve the C.E.O.. The consultant will
seek the C.E.O.'s support and umbrella of protection, as new concepts
are introduced to the company. Ongoing cooperation with the C.E.O. is
assumed for successful plan implementation.
- Top-Down
Managerial Training
After the plan is accepted, the C.E.O., with the consultant assisting,
will teach and model the training for the next level of management.
After these managers learn the new principles, they will teach the next
lower level, and so on. This process of having managers teach their
people continues throughout the company, until a new positive
managerial cultural change has been achieved. By teaching others, each
manager learns the new methods at a deeper level than if they had just
received classroom training.
- The
Hot Line
The new managerial methods are clearly designed to improve
communications throughout the company, in order to increase profits on
a long-term basis. However, there may be times when managers or
employees have a bright idea, or a grievance, that they do not feel
able to express through regular channels. The hot line, via the
consultant's phone service, works as a safety valve so that employee
issues may be shared in confidence.
- The
Employee Assistance Function
The Employee Assistance Counseling Program is designed for employees
who are experiencing unresolved work or personal issues, affecting
their productivity. These problems may include stress, mental illness,
relationship difficulties, grief, substance abuse, and other issues.
Note:
All communications with the employee are confidential and will not be
shared with management, unless the employee gives written permission.
The only exception to the confidentiality rule is where the counselor
is legally required to report child, elder abuse, or intended
violence.
- Ongoing
Surveys
Surveys of managers and employees give an indication of the growth in
overall wellness of the organization. Wherever negative components in a
survey are addressed and corrected, employees are motivated to continue
to have open, honest communications.
